A few truths about Simon Cowell

Simon Cowell was born in Lambeth, London in 1959. Once he finished college he took on several menial jobs until his father, an executive at EMI Music Publishing got him a job in the mail room. His father’s connections then got him rehired as an assistant to an A&R man. From there he worked his way up eventually getting promoted to a music publisher. Cowell then went on to work for Fanfare Records and this is where he had his first success in the music industry. When Fanfare’s parent company came into financial difficulty, Cowell then went on to become an A&R consultant for BMG. Cowell signed several artists to his label S-Records which became very successful, acts such as Five, Westlife and Robson & Jerome. In 2002 he set up another label, Syco Music which then became part of Columbia Records and Sony BMG Music Entertainment. Most people will know Cowell from his talent shows such as Pop Idol, X Factor and the Got Talent franchise. Artists from these shows such as Leona Lewis and Il Divo have had music released through Syco Music.
