About/History of Bristol

The city of Bristol is located in the South West of England and has a population of 420,556. Before the industrial revolution Bristol was ranked amongst the top three English cities after London and alongside Norwich and York, once the industrial revolution kicked in Bristol was superseded by cities such as Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham. At one time the city was reliant on the trade that came through the port but now they have large involvement in the aerospace industry. The city was where several world war one and two planes were built. After this the companies within Bristol moved into producing civil aircraft. In the 1960’s Bristol had a large part in the Anglo-French Concorde supersonic airliner project. To this day the aerospace industry remains a large part of the local economy. Bristol is home to several famous people such as the artist Banksy and comedians Russell Howard, Lee Evans and Justin Lee Collins as well as writer/comedian Stephen Merchant.
